Toll Free Number

When a new business opens its doors to the public, one of the first things to consider is whether to provide a local number or a toll-free number for consumers to call. In fact, an 800 number really can have a huge impact on the number of sales calls a business receives.

No Cost to Consumers

The first thing a business must consider when determining their telephone number is whether or not they would like a local number or one that is toll-free, regardless of the caller’s location. Statistically, when an individual is scouring the internet or the local yellow pages for a business, they are drawn to those businesses that have a toll free number, as it simply seems more professional. It is also a subtle way for businesses to tell their customers that they will provide nothing less than the best service, as it will cost them nothing to call the business from any location in the country—and even international destinations, in some cases.

Vanity Numbers

Another way to increase sales calls with the use of a toll free number is by incorporating a vanity number into the mix. A vanity number is an alphanumeric equivalent of a standard telephone number that is created through the use of the letters on a standard telephone dial pad. For instance, a business that sells real estate may choose vanity numbers like 1-800-HOMES4U while a company that provides haircuts and styles may choose 1-800-NEWLOOK. These numbers can increase business by providing consumers with a simple phrase they can remember when they need to find a particular product or service. If a business number is easy to remember, a consumer is more likely to dial that number than look up the telephone number of another company.

Low Cost Service

While many business owners may believe that a toll free number is expensive to set up and maintain, this could not be further from the truth. In fact, a 1-800 number is incredibly inexpensive and can often pay for itself with the addition of a single client or customer. When a business incorporates one of these numbers into an existing virtual phone system, they can also choose which phone will ring when the number is dialed, or even whether or not to use an automated operator to properly route the call—all at one low monthly rate.

Toll-Free Informational Hotlines

Another way that businesses can get the most from their toll free numbers is through the use of informational hotlines. With this service, consumers who call the telephone number will hear a pre-recorded message that describes all of the different products and services offered by that particular company. This is especially helpful for real estate agents and other salespeople who offer a multitude of products and services. The hotline also provides plenty of ways for potential clients and customers to contact sales agents directly in order to make a purchase, schedule an appointment or ask direct questions.

It is quite evident that companies will benefit from the use of toll free telephone numbers. From saving consumers money on their long distance bills to providing easy-to-remember vanity numbers, businesses simply cannot go wrong with a toll free number.
